Echho Ecumenical Christian Helping Hands Organization

ECHHO was founded in 1997 to help serve needs among the elderly and disabled in East Jefferson County. Created as asecular organization and supported by communities of faith, ECHHO has always served all area residents.

ECHHO volunteers help in the areas of transportation to medical appointments, running errands, doing shopping,housework and yard work for those unable to do such tasks for themselves. In sixteen yearsof service we have helped more than 5,000 individuals, driven over half a million miles and contributed over 50,000 hours of volunteer service in our community.

ECHHO staff also support a medical equipment loan service operated from offices in the former First Presbyterian Church manse in uptown Port Townsend. We have loaned over 10,000 items of medical equipment from sock-pullers to hospital beds during the past decade and at any time now have about 2,000 items on loan in the community.

ECHHO’s work grows each year through the dedication of its volunteers and staff and with financial support from United Good Neighbors, local churches, the Olympic Area Agency on Aging, Jefferson Healthcare, charitable foundations, local business and civic groups, and individual donors. During the last decade, ECHHO served 25% of people 60 and older living in Jefferson County.  In 2013 we helped more than 1,000 residents here and nearly one of every five seniors 80 and above.
