More than 30 years ago, ECS responded to the growing number of homeless people sleeping on the streets of San Francisco. From our humble beginnings sheltering 40 adults nightly in the basement of Grace Cathedral, we are now the city’s largest service provider for homeless and very low-income people. Day and night, we provide safety, hope, and dignity to 534 adults in our two shelters and act as lead service provider at San Francisco’s first Navigation Center, offering very low-barrier access to shelter, services, and a path to housing.
