Mission

Edible Hope's mission is to build community through a shared meal, love, and service. And we envision a world in which our housed and unhoused neighbors are nourished with compassion, hope, and connection.

Description

St. Luke's is a small but growing Episcopal mission located in the heart of Ballard in Seattle. One of our core commitments is to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being. This guides our work of being a good neighbor to everyone in our community including the many unhoused and hungry individuals who are guests at our daily free meal, Edible Hope. For almost 35 years, St. Luke's has been welcoming and serving anyone who needs a meal in our church basement. Each weekday morning, the Edible Hope team opens our doors, prepares and offers a meal, a cup of coffee, and a warm and comfortable place for everyone who shows up. Most of our guests are local unhoused neighbors or low-income workers in need of a meal or warm place to rest and start their day. These are our most vulnerable neighbors who fear for their safety on a daily basis, many have severe medical issues, suffer from substance abuse, mental health illness, physical and sexual abuse. It is our belief that people know and experience the love of God through the relationships we build and the good food prepared with care, compassion and intention. Outreach workers, medical staff and other service providers visit St. Luke's as a place to connect with those in greatest need.
