For the past 45 years, Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership (EICAP) has served the communities of Eastern Idaho. EICAP strives to help those in need by providing essential services to guide people from living a life filled with need to embracing a life of possibilities through self sufficiency.

EICAP is a very unique organization. As a Community Action Agency, in addition to providing direct aid, we provide both active support and crisis intervention. EICAP places a high value on dignity and self-respect. Through resources from the government, churches, individuals and the overall community, we work to empower people. Through this, we strive to build a stronger community one life at a time

Eastern Idaho Community Action partnership creates opportunities for individuals and families to reach their highest level of independence and self-sufficiency.  EICAP is widely recognized and respected by the public as a community asset that makes a difference in peoples' lives.  EICAP Board of Directors, staff and volunteers work efficiently with community partners to expand our role and impact in the community by responding to local needs.

Who We Serve

Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership has 150 full and part time employees who serve the nearly 205,000 residents in our nine county service area. Our counties vary from having 90,000 residents and a population density of 44 people per square mile to only having 1,000 residents with .6 people per square mile. In 2007 we provided direct services to roughly 12,000 individuals.

 

In Eastern Idaho:

  • Nearly 14% of residents live below the poverty level.
  • Our child poverty rate is 14%.
  • 17% of families with children who are under the age of 5 live in poverty.
  • 11% of families have a female as the head of household, with no male present. 29% of these live in poverty.
  • 3.6% of people over 16 years old are unemployed. (5.5% of the civilian labor force is unemployed.)
  • 10% of our residents are over the age of 65.
  • Nearly 1200 grandparents are responsible for raising their grandchildren.
  • 16% of our residents over the age of 5 have a disability.
  • 42% of adults age 21-64 with a disability are unemployed.
  • 17% of children do not have health insurance.
  • 19% of residence do not have health insurance.
  • 15% of people over the age of 25 do not have a high school diploma or equivalency.
  • 7.5% speak Spanish in the home, 46% of whom speak English less than "very well".
  • 30% of all housing units were built before 1960.
  • 12% of all housing units were built before 1940.

The Early Head Start program will be coming soon to EICAP; increasing the age range from birth to 5 years old.
