Elder-Aid

A nonprofit organization

Elder-Aids Mission is to "ensure that the elderly in the Brazos Valley remain independent and in the community for as long as possible".

In 1990, a college student from ATM saw the needs and challenges that many of our elderly face in everyday living. With this need, Sara Leoppert started Elder-Aid to offer some much-needed assistance to help the low-income elderly Sara started Elder-Aid.. Elder-Aid continued to grow, and by 1998, Elder-Aid was appointed a CHDO (Community Housing Development Organization). Becoming a CHDO opened up possibilities to provide more than the current services, but also to start building and renovating homes to house them. To date, Elder-Aid owns 52 individual units.

As people age, they tend to need help with home maintenance, food, transportation, housing, utilities, and food assistance. Between the lack of services and housing, Elder-Aid has been able to make a difference in our community. Over $21,000.00 is spent on client assistance annually. Other programs include the Buddy Program, providing emotional support, small home repairs, transportation to doctors' appointments, emergency utility assistance, and medication assistance. Besides affordable housing, Elder-Aid refers to many programs that can assist if we cannot help them.

Testimonials

My Elder-Aid home has been an "answer to my prayers." The staff and Elder-Aid community have taken me in and made me feel welcome and wanted. I will recommend Elder-Aid to any elder looking for a place to live. ---Mary Gibson
