Eldon Uptown-Downtown

A public meeting was held in the fall of 2015 to determine if there was the interest and the desire to save Eldon's commercial buildings. A decision was needed to either let the buildings go or to save them. The community backed the decision to start the process of saving them. It was hoped that Eldon could become an Iowa Main Street Community but after pursuing that program it was evident that Eldon does not have the resources required to participate. A requirement of the program was that the town have a full time paid administrator and the town did not have the means to pay for that position. Volunteers stepped up to the plate to keep the vision alive. In early 2016 Eldon Uptown/Downtown was organized to begin the restoration of Eldon's business district.
