Elizabeth Freeman Center is the domestic and sexual violence response center for Berkshire County, providing leadership and services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All of our services are free, confidential, and available in any language.

Our services include:

  • counselors available 24/7 to help people following an assault or attack. We meet callers at hospitals, police stations, and health clinics
  • individual and group counseling and advocacy for adults and children
  • help in the courts with restraining orders and safety
  • a residential safe shelter for persons fleeing imminent danger
  • emergency services, including shelter, food, transportation and safe phones, to help people get and stay safe
  • specialized services for immigrants and refugees, LGBQT survivors, and persons with disabilities
  • pet foster care with Berkshire Humane Society
  • supervised visitation for high risk cases
  • community education and training
  • violence prevention education/sex education focused on children and youth
  • annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes March against rape, sexual assault, and gender violence on the third Thursday of September

Each year, we serve over 2,000 survivors from almost every city, town, and hamlet in Berkshire County. Our dynamic violence prevention programming reaches over 750 youth in area schools and youth organizations.

We couldn’t do our work without the wonderful support of people like you – THANK YOU!

“Please accept our donation to be used for your shelter. You have helped many families rebuild their lives. I was once a resident at your shelter and you literally have me back my life. I’d probably be dead by now had I not been able to get away from my ex. Thank God it turned out differently.”

“When I was young, my family suffered so greatly. My mom chose alcohol to ease the suffering and in the absence of better coping strategies my father used his fists to soothe himself. Thanks to people like you, I found a better way, safety, and pride. My three boys will never feel the fear I did. Thank you.”
