FOR SOME SENIORS, A NUTRITIOUS MEAL IS HARD TO COME BY...

That’s why each day, Elks Meals on Wheels and its army of volunteers prepare and deliver meals to 800-plus seniors throughout Ada County.

Most seniors receiving meals are homebound and these meals provide their only consistent source of daily nourishment. In addition to the importance of the meals, the program offers a critical “safety net” and contact with the outside world.

The other part of Meals on Wheels is the congregate program, where on any given weekday, senior centers throughout Ada County bustle with activity as senior citizens congregate for lunch. Meals are served in group dining settings at the Boise, Garden City, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian and Star senior centers, as well as the Northgate Senior Village and Samaritan Village Apartments retirement communities.

While nutritious food is the main attraction and what typically brings these seniors to the centers at noon, socialization is extremely important. The centers provide a variety of activities and opportunities for socializing before and after lunch.

Meals on Wheels is administered in Ada County by the Elks Rehab System as part of our goal to help people live their lives to the fullest.
