HISTORY

EMERGE Coalition, Inc. was founded in 2020 by award-winning composer, Jesus J. Martinez and The Julius Quartet, hailed for leaving audiences "mesmerized by their resonant sound." (The Collegiate Time, VA). Since its inception, EMERGE has leapt head first into cultivating interactive educational initiatives, engaging performance experiences and meaningful community interactions.

EDUCATION - Virtual Workshop & Performance

In the Fall of 2020, our organization hosted the inaugural EMERGE Virtual Workshop & Performance: a 3-day, new music reading laboratory and concert webinar hosting daily reading sessions, masterclasses (such as writing for the string quartet, extended string techniques, etc…) and Q&A’s with industry leading musicians. Concluding each workshop is a virtual performance by The Julius Quartet of the various works as well as a professionally produced recording for each participant. Open to both young & old emerging composers, these workshops have welcomed over 50 composers from across the world, resulting in virtually streamed performances across 6 continents.

Additional elements of the workshop include two interactive performances titled "The Modern Master's Concert Series", featuring works by composers ranging from Franz Joseph Haydn to Osvaldo Golijov; the release of its first guidebook "The Performer's Perspective: A Comprehensive String Harmonics Guidebook for the Contemporary Composer"; and round table discussions with world renowned musicians such as composer Steve Mackey and violist Nicholas Cords. This initiative strives to engage composers across the world seeking to broaden their musical perspectives, expand their knowledge of string writing and bolster their professional portfolio.

PERFORMANCES - OFF the Beaten Path Performance Series: Season III

EMERGE is thrilled to announce WE MAKE THE WORLD - our third OFF the Beaten Path Performance Series season welcoming guest artists and performers, innovative performance projects and meaningful contemporary programming that explores social, historical and cultural contexts.

This new series aims to enrich the cultural landscape of Dallas and raise awareness of climate change that is drastically changing our world. Furthermore, 'We Make the World' is designed to incorporate additional features, showcasing local professionals from the DFW metroplex that can speak on important factors on climate change, contributing to an even deeper moving experience. Climate change has been a topic of contention and unease these decades, bringing about many nonprofit organizations dedicated to positive environmental change.

September of 2021 welcomed EMERGE's first season of the OFF the Beaten Path Performance Series. Previous performances include "Tear Down These Walls" - an interactive performance sponsored by the AT&T Performance Center Elevator Project as well as "Different Trains" presented and co-sponsored by the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza and The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum.
