Empty Chair Theater Company

An empty chair represents a space for opportunities, and our company is dedicated to using that space to create bold interpretations of classical texts. 

Founded in 2007 Empty Chair Theatre Company has presented more than eleven fully realized productions in five seasons. Still a young company full of young people, we strives to provide unique opportunities to perform and study Shakespeare with our peers and support a highly collaborative creative environment. 

We supplement onstage work through our Outreach and Education departments which aim at giving back to the community and helping audiences and students discover new ways of engaging with classical texts. 

Programming for our Fifth Year Anniversary Season Spring and Summer 2012

Season Shows - Hot, Mad Youth

• Romeo and Juliet - To begin our season, Empty Chair will bring to life an adventurous touring production of the bard’s great romance. Through a reconstruction of the well known story our production will delve into how an altered perception of the famed catastrophe can change our understanding of its meaning. 

 

• Hamlet - Next up an innovative re-imagining of Hamlet that will explore how a production can exist outside of the usual theatre setting. By putting the play into an intimate and real setting Empty Chair's Hamlet will confront the tragedy's questions about humanity face to face.

 

Education Programming

• The Fever Project- An intensive Spring camp extravaganza exploring Shakespeare’s text in the play Pericles 

 

• Two sessions of our Drama Camp - Where Elementary and Middle School students get to explore Shakespeare through creativity and performance. 

 

• Summer Shakespeare Workshop - A dynamic weeklong camp for teens that delves deeply into Shakespeare’s through concentrated scene and monologue study
