Energy Alabama

Energy Alabama is a non-profit organization accelerating the transition to clean, sustainable energy throughout Alabama. We accomplish our mission by educating at all levels, informing smart energy policy, building the next generation workforce, and providing technical assistance to deploy more sustainable energy. We believe in 100% sustainable energy for all.

Our Work:

Energy in Action – Educating the next generation about sustainable energy. Examples include:

• Afterschool science clubs with hands-on science experiments.
• Semester long training in energy management from benchmarking to finance at the high school level.
• Partnership with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center to develop energy lesson plans and conduct professional development for teacher.
• Design and construct a “net zero energy” tiny homes and reach 15,000 students with a sustainable energy curriculum.

North Alabama Buildings Performance Challenge - A competition among North Alabama commercial buildings, providing targeted resources to help local building owners and operators reduce energy consumption and save money. A joint effort with Energy Huntsville, and Avion Solutions. Currently over 7,000,000 square feet of local buildings are participating.

Policy and Advocacy - Together we fight to increase sustainable energy for all in Alabama. Examples include:

• Openness and transparency in utility rates and ratemaking processes.
• Improving equity in energy efficiency programs.
• Removing barriers to renewable energy deployment.
• Simplifying sharing of utility data.

Public Education and Events – Classes, seminars and speaking engagements for audiences including homebuyers, business leaders, and professional associations on how sustainable energy impacts their decisions. Fun and approachable events to raise awareness for sustainable energy have reached over 20,000 residents.
