Engage Globally supports community led sustainable development through education, vocational training, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and gender equity. Working with experienced local leaders and their communities, Engage is able to maximize the impact of donations to create long-term progress.
Our work in rural, Northern Ghana includes:
- Construction and operation of four early childhood learning centers, with 400 students. Each child receives a daily school lunch to improve nutrition, a school uniform sewn by our vocational program graduates, a pair of shoes, and school supplies. School activities include large vegetable gardens, tree planting, place-based learning, Parent Teacher Association, community celebrations, soccer teams, after-school programming, and cultural learning.
- Support for over 70 youth to attend private schools and public high schools in grades 4 through 12. Students in our youth education program receive school fees, uniforms, school supplies, and a bicycle. They also have the opportunity to participate in service activities and to receive mentoring from community members. Many of our teachers and program staff are graduates of this program.
- Vocational training for young adults, most of whom never had the opportunity to attend school. Trainees study to be seamstresses, weavers, cloth dyers, hair dressers, woodworkers, and bicycle repairers. Graduates receive support in opening their own businesses and many then become trainers. All of our school uniforms are sewn by women who graduated from this program and now own their own businesses in their village communities.
- Women's farming project that provides sustainable agricultural training, seeds, fertilizer, and plowing assistance to women from our partner communities. The participants have doubled their harvests and been able to sell surplus food in local markets. The women have shared that they use their incomes to pay for school fees, medicines, and to expand their farmland.
