Enlace’s most pressing goals are to build parent capacity to improve the well-being of families, and to encourage civic leadership through coalition-building. Both of these goals aim to engage parents in issues that impact their neighborhood, community, and the education and lives of their children. We aim to create shared participation and leadership in order to improve the well-being of the residents that we serve. To us, this means helping every family not only to survive, but to thrive.
We offer an evidence-based Co-Parenting group called MAnaging & PArenting, a weekly Early Literacy Through Play group, strengthening families through the Parent Cafe program, programming through our LGBTQ youth safe-space: House of Colors, and the trademark evidence-based Nurturing Fathers Program--which is our most successful and well-known program.
Here are some statistics for fatherless homes in the U.S.:
-More than 20 million children live in a home without the physical presence of a father (National Center for Fathering)
-Children who grew up in fatherless homes are 10x more likely to abuse chemical substances (National Center for Fathering)
-90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes (Bureau of the Census)
-Fatherless homes are 44% more likely to be raising their children living in poverty (National Center for Fathering)
-71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes (National Principals Association Report)
-State-run corrections facilities studies have shown between 70%-87% of inmates did not grow up with both parents (The Atlantic)
-63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (US Dept. Of Health/Census)
-Adolescent boys, regardless of household income, are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior if there has been no father figure in their lives & are less likely to attend college (Office of the President, My Brother's Keeper report)
The Nurturing Father's Program seeks to address these issues by helping fathers create a solid foundation on which to build the rest of their lives and the lives of their children. The Nurturing Fathers Program offers an unique approach to; teaching values and being a role model, issues around work and fathering, teamwork within the family, and more, with the goal of ending cyclic and systemic issues of child abuse and neglect.
