We are a rural animal shelter located in Stephenville,Texas. This is our first year participating in North Texas Giving Day and we are very excited to be part of this amazing day!
Dog Kennels – 25 inside, 28 outside 53 total
Cat Cages – 30
Even with this limited space, our average census of dogs each month is 75 and around 40 cats, and usually are at least double our capacity. We have a very small foster pool that helps us as much as they can. Our staff is amazing at working with what we have to give the best care to these animals. We also work with other very small area shelters as we can. Our director also works with rescues all over the country to help find our animals the best homes, even if it's outside of Texas.
There are so many programs we are wanting to implement. Our two main focuses at this point in time are making sure all of adoptable animals are spayed/neutered prior to adoption and starting our capital campaign for our new building.
Our spay/neuter focus is taking a very large amount of our budget. There is not a low cost spay/neuter option in our area, so we take animals to a town about 45 minutes away at least twice a month, more if we are able. We can only take about 15 animals at a time. It costs roughly a minimum $2000 each month for just 30 animals, not including employee pay, gas for our van and the time our employee is away from the shelter. We are always looking for donations to offset that cost. We are also trying to work with this clinic in allowing us to transport our communities animals once a month. The pet owner would be responsible for the cost, but we would offer transport to and from the clinic that day. Our first round of this new venture is September 26th.
We also are preparing plans for a new building. We were able to purchase a 17 acre piece of land last year due to so amazing donations and a grant we received. Stay tuned for more information on a capital campaign!
Thank you so much for visiting our page and we hope you are led to donate to us this year!
