The Erie to Pittsburgh Trail is an emerging network of trails connecting unique landscapes and outdoor recreation for over 270+ miles with hiking, biking, and paddling along the way through western Pennsylvania and southwestern New York.

The Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance is a coalition of non-profit organizations, local municipalities, supporters and advocates affiliated with the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail corridor in Western Pennsylvania.

With the vision of non-motorized, multi-use trails, and local connectors linking Erie to Pittsburgh through the experience of small towns, rural landscapes, historical sites and cultural areas, tied to the regional trail and beyond.

The Alliance's mission is to advocate for the development of the continuous trail to assist our local partners by sharing expertise and resources, to promote the trail for its regional significance and encourage larger and broader connections.

Why?

The Alliance advocates for a fully connected trail to bring the positive impacts of trails to the communities along the approximate 265 mile long corridor.

The Erie to Pittsburgh Trail will ultimately stretch from Dobbins Landing along Erie's scenic bayfront to Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh.  While the original 2006 alignment routed the trail through southwestern New York, the Erie to Corry Study identified a new northern segment that keeps the entire route within Erie County, providing a more direct route.

This realignment presents an exciting opportunity to directly connect the City of Corry, the Boroughs of Union City and Waterford, the City of Erie, and other nearby communities.  By bringing the trail through these areas, the region stands to gain significant benefits - including enhanced public health, economic development, and an improved quality of life for residents.

In early 2023, public stakeholder meetings were held to gather community input and adjust the proposed route accordingly.  We are now ready to move into the next phase:  executing the vision.  This includes ongoing public engagement, acquiring necessary rights-of-way, finalizing engineering plans, and initiating construction to extend the trail.

Together, we can bring this vision to life - building a future of health, community, and growth for all of Erie County.
