Jevaia Oral Health Care Project

Oral disease is the most prevalent childhood disease in Nepal, exceeding even malnutrition and Vitamin A deficiency. More than half of adults suffer from oral decay and pain, leading to a host of health problems ranging from diabetes to chronic pain to heart disease. Can you believe something so epidemic and so problematic is...so easily preventable?

Jevaia oral health care has one aim: to allow people to manage their own oral health care.  Here's how it works.

In each village, a team of three local community members are the primary stewards of the oral health program. One member is trained as a dental technician, one as a clinic assistant, and one as a community liason. We work intensively with each Team to establish a local weekly dental clinic and an oral health education program that includes daily brushing in each school. Every site is turned over to local leadership in two years.

Jevaia isn't an aid organization.  We collaborate, share knowledge, build capacity and create opportunities that allow people to transform their own communities.  We invest heavily in relationships and trust - that means we spend more time and less money.  We are committed to pursuing sustainable solutions that reduce or eliminate dependence on outside support and empower people to manage their own well being.
