The Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention

The Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention, established in Dothan in 1978, offers wrap-around services that enable our Center to truly intervene the in the cycle of abuse that affects so many children and families.  Our Center provides a safe place for survivors of child abuse and domestic violence to share their stories, get support, and to acquire skills they need to cope with past trauma.  In addition, we offere prevention education and support services to parents who have identified themselve to be at-risk of abuse. Through our Parent Aide program we are able to work with high risk families before abuse occurs.  The Parent Aide program offers families who live in Dothan a specialist to work with them on parenting skills, budgeting skills, home management, bonding, effective discipline techniques, and helps to connect them with an on-going support system.  This is a unique approach to prevention, and clients participating in the program have raved about how helpful this program has been in reducing stressors in their home and bonding them with their children. We would love to be able to expand this program and offer it to the Wiregrass. In 2016 the Exchange Center served over 583 abuse survivors in the Wiregrass with counseling and support services and touched over 2,896 people with prevention education!  The Exchange Center is a small agency (with only 7 full-time employees and 2 part-time) doing BIG things in the Wiregrass! 

 

The Exchange Center serves Barbour, Henry, Dale, Geneva, Houston, Pike and Coffe County with Child Abuse Prevention services.
