Expansion International

Expansion International Inc. is a local Christian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities in rural Kenya, Africa to address poverty and injustice leading to positive community transformations.

THE NEED

• Minimal access to medical care for rural communities turns simple illnesses into chronic disease.
• Water-born diseases and limited sanitation cause many illnesses.
• Education is limited to those who can afford it. Public education is provided only through 8th grade.  Only 1 in 3 students attend high school in Kenya.
• An estimated 400,000 Kenyan people have been internally displaced, leaving them without homes and basic necessities.

 

THE SOLUTION

We believe that the key to community development is partnering with local leaders in a community to empower individuals and groups of people with health services, education, job skills training, and spiritual development that work together to help them effect sustainable change in their own communities.

Individuals from our organization have been involved with transformative work in Kenya since 2003.  Both American and Kenyan partners have been blessed and enriched by the experience of loving and serving the people of Kenya.

Over 100,000 Kenyan people have benefited from the projects of Expansion International since its establishment in 2009, and work in several key communites is having a lasting impact.  

Programs Areas of Expansion International

Health: We desire loving and effective health care for poor communities who do not have access to medical care or quality health services in rural areas. This is done through medical, dental & eye clinics, health education, establishing health care facilities and implementing clean water solutions.

Education: We believe all children should have the opportunity to attend high school or trade school. Education gives children direction and keeps them from living on the streets and becoming hopeless.  Expansion International provides scholarship for students to attend high school, leadership training for students and invests in schools and training centers in the communities where we work.

Economic: We believe educating people on better business management and establishing micro-financing in communities is crucial to helping grow beyond a poverty situation. We provide business education, skills training and micro-financing programs in the communities where we work.

Spiritual: We desire that all people experience the love and hope of Jesus Christ. Spiritual programs coupled with counseling enable the poor to develop their identity, purpose & direction and this is critically important to the sustainability of all other areas and programs we provide. We work through local Pastors to link people to churches, provide places to worship, host training for church leaders, distribute Bibles for new believers and church classrooms and love the people in Kenya while working in the communities.
