Family House, Inc.

Founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1986, Family House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit corporation governed by a voluntary board of directors. The mission of Family House is to provide a special "home away from home" for patients and their families who seek treatment in Pittsburgh of serious or life-threatening illnesses or injuries.

Recognizing that sudden and traumatic medical diagnoses can often devastate a family's resources, the Family Assistance Fund was created in 1986 by Family House leadership. The affordable room rates offered by Family House from $45 to $80 per night can be out of reach for those who are facing long-term care, perhaps months or years away from home or those falling within the criteria for assistance. Patients and families work with their hospital social worker and the Family House Housing Office to determine eligibility for Family Assistance.
