Family Matters, formerly Family & Child Services of Washington, DC was founded in 1882, and is the oldest, accredited social service agency still operating in the District today. Our success lies in our commitment to our clients to provide high touch comprehensive, accessible, free and low-fee services to people who need it the most. We step in to act as family when DC needs us most.

Our diverse programs target DC’s most vulnerable populations of children, seniors, families and the mentally ill. We serve over 12,000 District of Columbia and Prince George’s County residents every year. We estimate that over 63% of our clients have incomes of less than $20,000 and 80% have incomes less than $40,000.

Division of Aging Services: Wards 1-8 Senior Social Service Programs include-Adult Abuse Prevention, Home & Community Based Waiver for the Elderly, Long-Term Care Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment & Case Management; Lead Agency for Aging Services in Wards 2 & 6; Lead Agency for Aging Services in Ward 8 includes Management of Nutrition Centers –Congregate and Home Delivered Meals, Transportation to sites and activities, Recreation/socialization services, Counseling and Case Management, Nutrition Education, Nutrition Counseling, Health Promotion, Life support transportation intake
