CHD Family Outreach of Amherst

If you were being abused, how would you get away? If your child was in the hospital, how would you get to them? If you needed to look for an apartment or apply for a job, how would you get there?

For a family with few resources and no car, these situations can feel insurmountable. Luckily, if you live in the Amherst area, you can call Family Outreach of Amherst (FOA). On any given day an FOA caseworker might:

• drive an abused woman to court to get a restraining order,
• take a parent to visit their child in the hospital,
• drive a homeless mother around Amherst to apply for an apartment or a job.

Every month, FOA caseworkers work with over 60 families to help them stabilize their lives. To do this, they need expertise, compassion, and very importantly, a vehicle. One of FOA’s largest expenses is gas - $6,000 a year ($500/month)!

This Valley Gives Day, we ask you to help fill the tank! Please make a donation to help us raise $6,000 for gas so that fragile families receive the services they need to stay safe, healthy and housed.
