Feeding Matters

Eleven years ago, Shannon Goldwater was a first-time mother of premature triplets, all of whom overcame serious infections and countless surgeries, but feeding and nourishing them adequately became the biggest challenge. All three babies were crying, choking and vomiting during every feeding. She didn't know any other parents struggling with this issue, and spent thousands of dollars, countless hours in emergency rooms, and traveled all over the country to try to find answers. This battle, and the love for her children, inspired her to create an organization that would change the journey for others.  Shannon founded Feeding Matters in 2006 and is the organization’s Board Chair.

The mission of P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center, now Feeding Matters, is to bring pediatric feeding struggles to the forefront so infants and children are identified early, families’ voices are heard, and medical professionals are equipped to deliver collaborative care.  Although over 1 million children in the United States have a severe feeding struggle, many people have very little understanding of this prevalent and complex issue- including medical professionals and parents.
