I started Fire and Ice Horse Rescue to provide a second career for Thoroughbred horses after they are done racing. Many of these fine equine athletes have a very bleak future after they are done racing. Usually the horses that are unsuccessful on the track and cannot be used for breeding are sent to slaughter if they are not rescued. Many of these horses have won hundreds of thousands of dollars for their owners, but are discarded after they are no longer in the money.

The goal is to give these horses a second chance at another career.  The horses are rescued directly from the race track and are retrained to be rideable by the everyday person. The retrainig process usually takes about 6 months to a year. And while the process can be long and loborious; it is also extremely rewarding. The thoroughbred horse is one of the most soulful breeds on the planet and anyone who has been around them knows that they are true champions.

These horses require a lot of care but they are absolutely worth the time and effort. Every little bit counts to save these horses that would otherwise fall by the way side. These horses are truely remarkable and deserve a chance at life.
