Why Miami?

Miami is quickly becoming a hub for innovation and discovery, but there’s still a gap between what our cutting-edge industries need and what students gain through traditional education. That’s where FIRST comes in—helping young people bridge that gap by turning textbook lessons into hands-on innovation and real-world problem solving. 

Founded in 1989, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit that prepares young people for the future through inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4–18. FIRST® changes students lives, and we have the stats to prove it:

 

But these results only apply to  those students that are fortunate enough to participate in the program. 

And that's where YOU come in... we need your help!

You can help us bring the Sports of the Mind to MORE students in Miami! In FIRST Robotics Competition, students design, build, and compete with their robots in a high-energy, sports-like environment. Along the way, they develop teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills that last a lifetime. FIRST participants and alumni gain access to scholarships, mentors, and career opportunities—and a lifelong community that cheers them on. 

The best part? The Competition is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! But… creating the game, training the teams, renting the space, powering the lights, and feeding our amazing volunteers isn’t free—and that’s where you come in.
