First Book Treasure Valley

First Book - Treasure Valley provides new books to children in need addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. 

Do you remember the magic of your first book?

Picture a child who has never felt the joy of being the first person to crack open his very own book; to gently crease the pages against the binding; to smell the faint yet distinct aroma of ink, paper, glue, and imagination; to write his name on the inside cover and find a place for it in his room, where it will always be there waiting to carry him away to another place.  This child exists, him and many others, right here in Idaho.  There are countless children who have little access to books at all, let alone one to call their own.  That’s where First Book comes in.

First Book is a non-profit organization that provides brand new books to children in need.  The Treasure Valley Advisory Board identifies local schools, groups, and community programs serving children with limited access to books.  Through grants, fundraisers, and donations, the Advisory Board is able to provide each of those children with their very own first book.  One of the most important factors affecting literacy is access to books, and First Book - Treasure Valley strives to not only improve the literacy of our local children, but also to foster a love for reading.

In 2013, First Book - Treasure Valley provided over 2,200 books to local children in need.  Recipient groups included Advocates Against Family Violence, Nampa Housing Authority, Wilder Head Start, Payette Head Start, Mill Creek Elementary, Learning Lab, and Friends of Children and Families.   We hope to be able to do even more in 2014.  Your donations can make that possible!  Most of the children we serve have no books to call their own.  With your donation, you are not only investing in their future, but the future of the Treasure Valley.
