First Contact Porter County

Each of our offices – in Valparaiso and Portage – have a deep commitment to helping the temporarily disadvantaged low income, senior citizens, disabled, and others facing a hardship with groceries, food, and other forms of non-financial and financial assistance in Porter County.  

We are a conscientious, well-managed organization that can provide clothing, temporary shelter locations, furniture, personal hygiene items and a needed payment to prevent utility turn-off or for a month’s rent. Often churches don’t have the resources to screen all those who are in need for several reasons. No time, not enough office staff, no knowledge of how to screen or for what to screen, or, simply, no time. So the churches, and other organizations, refer those to us.

We screen to get to the heart of their needs then provide resources, referrals to other nearby non-profit charity organizations, churches or government programs, and checks as necessary. We provide financial education and counseling so the situation remains temporary.
