Friends of Fisher House St. Louis

The Fisher House in St. Louis provides support for a free "home away from home" to families and caregivers of hospitalized Veterans or military personnel who are being treated at the Veterans Health Administration Medical Center in St. Louis. We provide lodging and essentials such as food, clothing, and sundries. The 20-suite house is at the VA Medical Center at Jefferson Barracks. We also provide after-hours transportation to the VA's John Cochran Hospital in mid-town St. Louis.
The Fisher House in St. Louis has served more than 12,250 guests and provided approximately $11 million dollars in cost savings to those guests since it opened in 2010. Veterans from across the Central Midwest come to the St Louis VA hospital for major medical procedures.
Before our Fisher House opened, many of these Veterans, their families could not come to be with them because they simply could not afford the high cost of commercial lodging and food for extended periods. Their families knew how important it was to be here. They tried! We had wives sleeping in their cars in the parking lots…or whole families camping out in the hospital lobbies. When we opened the St Louis Fisher House, it solved these problems. Families can stay in the Fisher House for as long as their Veteran is hospitalized or receiving medical care such as daily physical therapy. Everything is provided for them free of charge. There are large common areas such as living, dining and family rooms, a huge kitchen and laundry facilities. A dedicated staff (provided by the VA) and volunteers do everything possible to make the guests as comfortable as possible.
