Five Rivers Conservation Trust

A nonprofit organization

Protecting Land. Connecting People To Nature. Forever.

Five Rivers Conservation Trust is a small but effective land trust rooted in the greater capital region of New Hampshire. Powered by 3 full-time staff and a dedicated network of volunteers, together, we protect clean water, natural landscapes, and the open spaces that help our communities thrive.

Last year, thanks to your support, we conserved 729 acres across 5 properties, added new signage, and connected with the community through hikes, farm dinners, and celebrations.

So far, we’ve protected nearly 6,500 acres across 89 properties in 17 towns—and we’re just getting started. Your gift helps us continue this work, conserving wildlife habitat, working lands, recreational areas, and water resources for generations to come. Many of these lands are open for all to enjoy.

Five Rivers' mission is to sustain healthy communities by connecting people to nature and conserving land forever. We envision productive farms and forests, clean water, thriving wildlife habitats, and climate-resilient landscapes throughout our region. We envision communities where people access the outdoors near home, feel connected to nature, and understand and advocate for the benefits of land conservation.

We serve the communities of Belmont, Boscawen, Bow, Canterbury, Chichester, Concord, Dunbarton, Gilmanton, Hillsborough, Henniker, Hopkinton, Loudon, Northfield, Pembroke, Salisbury, Warner, and Webster. Our landscape is notable for the five waterways that converge here: the Merrimack, Contoocook, Blackwater, Warner, and Soucook Rivers.

Who We Are

Fresh local food, clean water and air, and outdoor places for inspiration, contemplation and exercise are all components of quality of life. Today, more than ever, conservation of the local places that provide these benefits is essential. For 31 years, Five Rivers Conservation Trust has conserved local farms, forests, water resources, wildlife habitat and recreational access for future generations. Currently, we are working to conserve dairy farm fields, large blocks of forest land, frontage along one of our five rivers, wetlands that filter our water, a working farm that sells directly to the public, and forestland adjacent to an elementary school.
Connection to the natural world had long lasting benefits. Five Rivers aims to ensure that future generations have outdoor spaces to make that connection possible.
