Flock Cancer Idaho Incorporated

The Flock Cancer Street Stroll began in 2021 when the Komen organization announced they would no longer host an event in Boise. Leslie Scantling and her mother, Barbara Rhoades, both treasured the annual event to come together with their friends, family, and fellow breast cancer survivors and celebrate survivorship.  

The duo began planning the pink flamingo-themed Flock Cancer Street Stroll along Boise’s historic Harrison Boulevard. The local garden center, Franz Witte, donated their iconic flock to bedeck Leslie’s front lawn as she had decorated with them in the past…. the theme seemed natural to continue on.

Participants were able to stroll on their own timeframe a loop up and down the boulevard, enjoy homeowner’s decoration and cheering sections, and included getting to walk through a balloon arch to ring the pink bell in celebration of cancer survivors, fighters, and all who we walk in support and in memory of. With the help of the Harrison Boulevard neighbors and marketing support by Lotus Boise Radio, our first annual Flock Cancer Street Stroll took place on May 8th, 2021 and raised $25k.

In the winter of ‘21 Flock Cancer Idaho received 501c(3) status as a non-profit corporation. With no paid staff, but a “flock” of enthusiastic volunteers, the ’22 event raised $65k earmarked exclusively for local organizations whose work is so crucial to those impacted by this disease. Our goal is to ensure all funds from our event directly help Treasure Valley patients, fighters, care givers and their families. 

We are gathering our amazing community partners for sponsorship opportunities for our 2023 event. It is our goal to flood the sidewalks along Harrison Boulevard with a sea of pink and to expand our footprint to include food trucks, music, a heartfelt survivor tent and other additions.
