FND Hope

On April 13, 2012, FND Hope was created to unite people with Functional Neurological Disorder [FND]. What is FND?

Functional Neurological Disorder  is due to a problem with the functioning of the nervous system. Functional symptoms are thought to derive from the brain’s inability to send and receive signals properly, as the result of physical and/or psychological precipitating factors.  Functional Neurological Disorder is an umbrella term for a variety of symptoms of apparent neurological origin, but current models struggle to explain psychologically or organically.  Presentation may be similar to a wide range of other neurological conditions from seizures to dystonia.

FND Hope was registered, in the state of Idaho, as a non-profit on April 30, 2012.  FNDHOPE.ORG was just the beginning of what is the first and only non-profit patient advocacy organization in the world specifically for those diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder.

FND Hope advocates for the men, women, and children who have had their lives turned upside down with physical and often debilitating symptoms.  These symptoms are often in comparison or sometimes worse than those experienced with Parkinson's or MS. Effective treatment is lacking. Many patients are sent home to suffer alone in silence with little to no information about their condition. 

Since April 2012, we have become a fast growing community. We have over 3200 members from over 31 countries. We work with researchers from all over the world. 

Unfortunately, When doctors are faced with medical uncertainty they are often at a loss on how to diagnose and/or treat their patient. All to often a patient is dismissed when they fail to fit medical stereotypes.  

We give FND patients a voice, a supportive community to call their own and a place to feel secure.  We give FND patients the courage to keep going and the strength they need to endure each day, but most of all…

We give them hope.
