Friends of the Governor's Program For Gifted Children, Inc

A nonprofit organization

Since its inception in 1959, the Governor's Program for Gifted Children (GPGC) has focused on satisfying the unique and often unrecognized needs of intellectually and artistically gifted children. A dedicated staff of counselors, professional faculty and administrators provide parents with the security of knowing their children will be both nurtured and challenged. The Friends of GPGC (FoGPGC) provides support to ensure as many children as possible benefit from the experience of the program.

GPGC is a summer program for gifted children hosted on the McNeese State University college campus. Over the course of approximately six weeks, students engage in a mix of academic and arts curriculum as well as social enrichment activities, from field trips to dances to daily life in the dorms. The Friends of GPGC (FoGPGC) board provides the necessary support to ensure as many children as possible benefit from the experience the program has to offer.

Testimonials

"GPGC is a remarkable experience for every gifted child, and it has made an enormous impact on our daughter, who has come out of it, truly transformed in every way." -Sheela Babu, GPGC Parent

"The program gave our kids a larger world view. They came back understanding more clearly than ever that the world is a lot larger than their school and neighborhood. They became more discriminating learners. They appreciate far better when a teacher does a good job (regardless of whether the class is "tough" or not).
