Food Finders rescues more than 1 million pounds of food each month and continues to be a crucial resource to nonprofits providing food in the Long Beach area and throughout four counties in Southern CA.
Whether it is large shelters, group homes, or small pantries and youth programs, we serve them all. Our outreach includes a large section of the community, supported by food donors, volunteers, and businesses working together to ensure nobody has to struggle to find food. Currently 1 in 5 Californians experience food insecurity. We're working hard to ensure that statistic improves. We accomplish this with dedicated staff, a small army of amazing "Food Rescue Hero" volunteers, and loyal supporters.
This Long Beach Gives campaign will benefit our Food 4 Kids Program. Established in 2015, our Food 4 Kids Program was born out of the urgent need to provide food over the weekend for students who depend on subsidized school meals throughout the week. These meals serve as a lifeline, ensuring kids receive the nutrition necessary for their well-being. We currently serve 47 schools in the Long Beach Unified School District - 15 elementary, 21 middle, and 11 high schools. Please help us reach our goal of $6,000 to provide nutritious weekend meals to food-insecure students and their families.
Browning High School student: “It’s so life-changing that I don’t go home hungry, and it should be everywhere.”
Cabrillo High School student: “My dad doesn’t have a lot of money and we often don’t have groceries so this helps my family. It keeps me from being poor and starving."
CAMS High School student: “I know the food is going to be there every day in the Wellness Center when I go to school, and when I need to take some home, there is no judgement.”
Volunteer: "As someone who was food challenged as a child, knowing some kids are getting food when they might be otherwise hungry, is all the motivation needed."
Volunteer: "As a driver, I see the kids at the school and I am happy to help their family with the food. Knowing their lives will be a bit easier on the weekend is good for me."
Volunteer: "When I volunteer with Food Finders' F4K Program, I feel good knowing that I am making a direct impact in the lives of Long Beach students. We have kids in our own backyard who struggle with food insecurity -- it's a problem that hits so many local families. By dropping off weekly, nutritious non- perishable food items, these families may find life a little easier over the weekend when their children aren't provided with free or reduced school meals."
Volunteer: "The gratification and joy I experience in being a small part of the redistribution process greatly surpass my 50 years as a health care professional. I get back so much more than I give."
