Food Finders of Smith County

A nonprofit organization

Food Finders of Smith County is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to minimize the problem of hunger in food insecure individuals and families and to reduce food waste by recovering nourishing, healthy meals from local food establishments that would otherwise be discarded. We thank our food donors for leading the way in trusting us with your food donations! We realize you put your name and reputation in our hands each time you generously give us your food to run to a charity.

Our corporation was established after Carol Lee experienced food waste firsthand while on a field trip with her sixth graders. She watched 100 apples and 100 oranges get thrown in the trash that wouldn't be recovered for a better purpose such as nourishing the body of someone less fortunate. The following summer, she, Jill, and Keira hatched an idea that transformed into a reality. Food Finders of Smith County was established to reduce food waste and put it to the better use of nourishing bodies of those who need help. When you consider all of the perfectly good food that is wasted, this move made perfect sense.
After our first year of operation, we gained new accounts who have generously donated their excess food to us, and we have transported over 50,000 pounds to local charities who provide food for food insecure individuals in Smith County. We are thankful to our food AND financial donors who have made this all possible!
