Six days a week, the staff and volunteers at Food & Friends prepare and deliver thousands of nutritious meals to children and adults battling HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses. We offer 11 different meal plans and the menus are tailored to meet the individual health needs of our clients in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. Our services are 100% free-of-charge and, thanks to the incredible support of the community, more than 13 million meals have been delivered to more than 21,000 people since 1988.
For those battling life's most painful illnesses, Food & Friends is a lifeline. Thank you for making these stories possible:
"Food & Friends is so important to me because there have been many times when I don't have enough food to last due to my not having enough funds to carry through the month with all other bills that lie ahead of me . . . Now that I have been stricken with this illness Food & Friends provides me with the food I need to keep me healthy and give me hope to go on as well.”
– Sasha in Virginia
“I dare not imagine what would have become of me had not your generous donations sustained me through my long ordeal of radiation and chemotherapy for cancer. Having little appetite or energy, I could not muster the strength to work in my kitchen for hours or go shopping . . . The distress to my body . . . prolonged my recovery, but knowing that I could look forward to a smiling face at my door . . . kept me going with optimism for a better day . . . Now I am on my way to complete recovery. Thanks for the food and thank you Friends!”
