Currently Fishhook is working to make a difference in India through two native partners. We work to serve the people of India in three areas:
- Offering hope through Jesus Christ
- Caring for destitute widows and orphans
- Helping the poor become self reliant
Some of the projects that we sponsor in India are:
- The Living Hope Children's Home where about 200 orphans and destitute children live. They are fed, sheltered, educated and well-loved by people who love the Lord. It costs $35 monthly to provide for each child.
- The Lydia Home for Children is home to 11 orphans, 7 of whom are HIV positive. As they are cared for, educated and loved, their faces shine with the happiness that every child needs. And they are a fun-loving bunch. The Lydia Home is alive with singing, laughter and joy! Providing for these kids costs $50 monthly.
- In the first week of May each year we conduct a 5-day Vacation Bible School where about 5,000 children attend. It is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with those who have never heard the Gospel.
- Our nursing school, the Jaya Para Medical Institute, trains young people who have a desire to serve through medical care but who have no opportunity for that kind of education. Upon completion of the 2 year program, they are prepared and certified to provide home health care in villages with no access to medical facilities. Murugalakshmi, a nursing student from a lower caste, expresses the gratitude the students feel: "I thank God and the nursing school officials for giving me this chance and helping a girl from most backward caste to do nursing."
Claudia O'Neil, a Lexington resident who sponsors two children in India through Fishhook, had this to say:
"I feel so very personally blessed, and it brings tremendous joy to me to know I have a small part of what God is doing and what He uses to bring about His purposes simply because He loves mankind with a passion. Thanks, God, and thank you, Fishhook."
