Friends of Willow River & Kinnickinnic State Parks

A nonprofit organization

$1,790 raised by 10 donors

The Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 1990. This all-volunteer group is network of citizen groups who have “adopted” state parks. We work together with the park manager to organize and fund supplemental park programs, projects and events. Our main focus is encouraging wise-use of natural resources and respect towards wildlife and the environment in order to advance the quality of life for future generations to come. By "adopting" these state parks, we are protecting and conserving their future, and helping the next generation find the drive and passion to continue to do so. It is only with support from people like YOU that all of this is possible.

Education is our main focus. The Friends employ a naturalist who provides:

  • Nature Center management
  • Young Naturalist classes
  • School field trips
  • Programs for campers and park visitors
  • Community outreach to schools and organizations in the area

Friends volunteers support various activities including:

  • Trail maintenance
  • Ski trail grooming
  • Invasive species management
  • Nature center hosting
  • Program presentation
  • Fundraising

Willow River Nature Center serves as a home base for:

  • Interpretive displays
  • Ambassador animals
  • Gift shop
  • Meeting space
  • Classroom and program space
  • Information center

We are excited to announce that we have an anonymous donor willing to match dollar-for-dollar donations to the Friends’ GiveBIG campaign up to $1,000. So, every dollar donated to our GiveBIG campaign is actually two dollars!
