In 1982, a group of citizen concerned about child abuse and its impact o children and families inour community came together to form the Frankfort Area Children's Council.  In 1984, we adopted the name 'The Sunshine Center' and began to offer respite to at-risk parents.  The Center also provided educational resources and referrals to other community agencies in an effort to give parents to support they need to change the cycle of abuse.

In 1986, we started providing formal parenting classes.  The goal was to provide parents with the tools they need to change their behaviors and enable them to become positive and nurturing parents.  In the same year, we received funding for two part-time therapist to provide councseling to victims of family violence.

Today, The Sunshine Center continues to offer individual therapy to vicitms of family violence, group therapy for surviors of Domestic Violence, parenting education at the center and at Franklin County Regional Jail, child education in day care settings, Christmas/Holiday sponsorship program, as well as other charitable giving efforts.  Please contact us at 502/875-3495 if you want additional information.
