Free Arts for Abused Children (Los Angeles)

Free Arts Los Angeles uses art to restore hope, resiliency and self-esteem in children in Los Angeles ages 5-18 who have experienced abuse, poverty, neglect and/or homelessness. In addition, Free Arts provides art to children in hospitals and communities who do not have access to art programs. 

Founded in 1977 by an Art Therapist who believed art therapy could transform the lives of children in the foster care system, Free Arts is one of the oldest and most respected agencies in Los Angeles County, providing art programs to restore hope, resiliency and self-esteem in children experiencing trauma from abuse, discrimination, homelessness and poverty.  Free Arts works within a larger ecosystem of public-private entities working together to make a difference in the lives of children for generations to come. Through art, Free Arts works alongside Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court, Memorial Care Hospital Long Beach, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Children's Law Center (CLC). schools, domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and other community agencies serving disadvantaged children in underserved communities.
