Free Bikes 4 Kidz - Detroit

Do you remember the day you received your first bike? Many kids in our community have never had that experience - that feeling of joy and the sense of independence as you took the first tentative pedal strokes and quickly realized you could go farther, faster than you ever could before. Your friends' houses, school and parks were all within reach as you could speed along the road, coasting when you felt like it, with the wind in your hair. For the last five years Free Bikes 4 Kidz has given that feeling, along with a brand new helmet, to 12,380 kids in Detroit and surrounding communities. In addition to all the great feelings you get from riding a bike these kids also are improving their physical health and mental well-being. We suppllied bikes and helmets to over 2,000 bikes to kids in 2023 and this year our goal is to give 4,000 kids in Detroit a shiny bike with a new helmet. Every kid deserves the chance to own their very own bike - can you help us give it to them?

We're collecting bikes from the public this year on Saturday, September 28 at 25 participating Meijer stores across Southeast Michigan. So if you have some old bikes that your kids have outgrown collecting dust in your garage, pull them out just as they are - no cleaning or repairs necessary prior to donating - and bring them to a donation site near you. Want to get more involved? To help us prepare the bikes for the kids before the holidays, we need hundreds of volunteers - no skills required if you just want to help clean the bikes up. But if you have bike mechanic skills we REALLY would love your help! You can sign up starting in early to mid September at fb4kdetroit.org.
