Free Press is building a powerful nationwide movement to change media and technology policies, promote the public interest and strengthen democracy.

Free Press advocates for universal and affordable Internet access, diverse media ownership, vibrant public media and quality journalism.

Over the past 10 years, Free Press has engaged and mobilized millions of people in crucial media policy debates. Free Press and its 750,000 members have challenged the most egregious corporate and governmental attacks on the open Internet, press freedom and public broadcasting — and won some remarkable victories. For example:

• We exposed the companies messing with the open Internet and turned Net Neutrality — the principle that keeps the Internet free from discrimination — into a major issue discussed by the president, the press and millions of Web users.

• We slowed runaway media consolidation, beating the FCC in court when it tried to gut media ownership rules and preventing Rupert Murdoch and the Koch brothers from expanding their empires.

• We defeated numerous congressional attempts to cut funding for public broadcasting and passed legislation to create hundreds of new community radio stations.

• We stopped the merger of AT&T and T-Mobile and defeated the SOPA/PIPA Web-censorship bills.

• We united people from 130 countries around the Declaration of Internet Freedom and built broad coalitions to save the Internet and end unchecked surveillance.

• We organized six National Conferences for Media Reform, bringing thousands of activists and advocates together. We also convened dozens of local hearings and events and held hundreds of public meetings with Washington officials.

Free Press is celebrating more than 10 years of advocating for media that reflect the values of access, democracy, diversity, equality, freedom and openness. And we're just getting started!
