Free Root Operation

Free Root Operation's BLOOM Program is a 6-month wellness program dedicated to healing and empowering Black mothers and women who are living in communities impacted by poverty-induced violence. The 6-month curriculum is rooted in the pillars of self-love, nourishment, and transformation. Participants leave the program being more civically engaged leaders, able to create an impact in their lives, families, and communities. 

The outcomes of last year's program were amazing! Here is the impact of our program:

• 100% of participants felt capable of setting & attaining goals by the end of the program.
• 63% of participants developed a more positive relationship with preparing & eating food.
• 63% of participants reported feeling like they had more of a community to rely on at the end of the program than they did at the beginning of the program.

In 2023, we WILL increase this impact! This year, we will provide 15 women with over 60 hours of in-person support and 10 hours of free counseling each, facilitate 20 wellness programs, and host an in-person graduation to give Black women and single mothers the flowers they deserve. • Launch an Ambassador level to the BLOOM Program for a small group of alumni, and provide stipends, so they can continue to heal and make progress toward their long-term goals which include pursuing higher education, becoming a business owner, and more...
• Host BLOOM's first-ever, in-person graduation in December 2023 to honor and celebrate the growth of the 2023 BLOOM Cohort of 15 mothers and women 
• Provide civic engagement resources, opportunities, and workshops to Black single mothers in our BLOOM Program who seek to become leaders and advocates in the movement to end poverty-induced gun violence

More on the BLOOM Program

BLOOM addresses the root causes of gun violence, empowers Black women, and serves Black single mothers and women, often erased from gun violence advocacy, as a public safety infrastructure. We provide the women with deep and holistic care to our constituents through transformative healing, small group service, intentional relationship building with every constituent, and self-assessed, assets-based, impact measurement. Participants engage in activities like group counseling sessions with licensed social workers, yoga, art therapy, and other wellness activities, homework assignments, and completing a personal or professional goal. This all fuels our operation to restore communities impacted by poverty-induced gun violence to safe, abundant, and liberated sites of Oasis.
