Freedom Rising exists to combat human trafficking and child exploitation by intervening at the most vulnerable points of abuse and poverty. Our primary work takes place in Daulatdia, home to one of the largest brothel communities in the world. Thousands of women are trapped in commercial sexual exploitation there, and hundreds of children are born and raised inside the brothel system with little to no access to education, healthcare, or protection.

In Daulatdia, exploitation happens in plain sight. Children are routinely denied schooling due to stigma. Young girls are groomed or forced into prostitution at an early age. Mothers often see no alternative way to provide for their children. Freedom Rising supports and expands two critical programs in this community that are breaking this cycle and offering real pathways to freedom: the House of Hope and the Meena Safe Home.

House of Hope – A Lifeline for Children and Mothers

The House of Hope is a daily safe-day program located inside the brothel district. It serves as a refuge for children and mothers who would otherwise have no safe place to go.

Each day, over 250 children come to the House of Hope to receive:

  • Informal education and tutoring

  • Basic healthcare and hygiene support

  • Emotional care, structure, and safety

  • Nutritious Daily Meals

Because brothel-born children are often rejected from public schools, the House of Hope provides a vital educational foundation that keeps children learning, protected, and off the streets. For many, it is the only place where they are treated as children rather than commodities.

The House of Hope also serves hundreds of mothers, many of whom were trafficked as children themselves. Through vocational training, literacy support, health services, and mentoring, women are given tools to pursue alternative sources of income and regain dignity and independence.

Without the House of Hope, these children would face hunger, abuse, and near-certain exploitation. With it, they experience stability, care, and hope. Often for the first time in their lives.

Meena Safe Home – Rescue, Healing, and a Future

The Meena Safe Home is a long-term residential safe home for girls who have been trafficked or are at immediate risk of exploitation.

Many of the girls in this program were born inside the brothel or targeted by traffickers at a young age. Without intervention, they would likely be forced into prostitution as minors. The Meena Safe Home removes them entirely from the brothel environment and places them in a secure, nurturing home outside the district.

At the Meena Safe Home, girls receive:

  • Safe housing and full-time care

  • Access to education and tutoring

  • Trauma-informed counseling and emotional support

  • Life-skills training and mentorship

  • A loving, family-style environment

Currently, around 60 girls live in the Meena Safe Home, where they are supported as they heal from trauma and begin rebuilding their lives. These girls are no longer defined by their past. They are students, sisters, and future leaders. We are currently expanding into a larger safe home to house hopefully 150 girls.

The Meena Safe Home exists to ensure that girls are not just rescued, but restored.
