Fresh Start Surgical Gifts

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts transforms the lives of disadvantaged infants, children and teen with physical and cosmetic deformities caused by accidents, disease, abuse or birth defects through the gift of plastic and reconstructive surgery and related medical care.

With support and generous contributions from the community and civic leaders, Fresh Start has been able to transform the lives of over 8,100 infants, children, and teens with medical services valued at over $45,000,000 at no cost to patients or their families.

With the current financial crisis and unemployment skyrocketing and loss of employer sponsored health insurance combined with fears of the unknown, Fresh Start is  accommodating more children than ever before.  As the safety net for the uninsured, underinsured and the growing number of financially insecure families in our communities, Fresh Start remains committed to providing high quality medical care and related services for children suffering with cosmetic and physical deformities. For example, a child may have lost a few teeth in a bicycle accident and the family had been saving for implants.  Now, suddenly they are faced with the choice between teeth for their child or food and rent.  Fresh Start is here to relieve that anxiety and provide the care the child needs at no cost.

No family has ever received a bill, and no family ever will.  That’s a promise.

Fresh Start’s Surgery Weekend Program provides free reconstructive surgeries and related medical treatments for disadvantaged youth with physical and cosmetic deformities. All Fresh Start’s medical services are provided by highly trained and well-regarded medical volunteers who treat a wide range of conditions, from cleft lip and palate to children who suffer from burns and scars from abuse. Fresh Start’s innovative approach to healthcare empowers youth to maintain healthy lifestyles, become more involved in their communities, and have the motivation to accomplish their goals.

Fresh Start focuses on treating children from our Southern California community. Fresh Start serves as the safety net for disadvantaged children from families with no health care insurance; families whose health care insurance refuses to cover treatment; families who do not qualify for state funded programs; families who are insured and would suffer significant financial hardship if they were to pay the deductibles and co-pays for the treatment; and families who do not have access to treatment based on location. Through high-quality, comprehensive medical care that results in the best possible outcomes, Fresh Start ensures that children can live happy, healthy, and productive lives.
