Friendly Hands Food Bank

Friendly Hands Food Bank is the largest food bank in NWCT.  Since 1991, our mission has been and continues to serve families, veterans, and individuals, the most basic of human needs - food.   FHFB provides over 37,000 meals monthly to those facing food insecurity.   We provide nutritious and healthy food options ensuring no one goes hungry.  In addition, we offer a variety of other services to our clients including on site health care services, free haircuts, grooming and toiletry needs, and pet food, just to name a few!

FHFB delivers meals and groceries monthly to senior citizens and veterans across Torrington, Winsted and Colebrook.  This door to door service has proven to be beneficial to our senior population who may not be able to get out and was especially convenient during the pandemic.   We continue to expand our outreach to various towns in the NWCT area for our most precious seniors.

Unlike most agencies, FHFB receives NO Federal, State or Local funding and relies solely on the generosity of private donors, grants and businesses in our community.   Our goal is to secure funds through this campaign to provide for the increased numbers of clients we continue to serve.

It is our fervent belief that "Community Comes First" and we will continue to provide food to all of NWCT.   Due to infrequent or lack of services being available for our homeless population, FHFB took the lead in offering basic necessities via several public events (Homeless Care Connect) to assure that our homeless were being taken care of.  Our public food giveaways continue to keep families and the homebound population fed via drive thru distributions.  AND, of course we offer fun events for the public such as visits with Santa, Easter Bunny, etc so everyone can experience the joy of the holidays!

So when considering donating to FHFB, keep in mind that our your dollars will go directly to feeding those in need.  We pride ourselves on keeping our overhead extremely low, hosting only 3 paid employees and creating magic with our dedicated volunteers and amazing board of directors.  This allows you, the donor, to feel good about giving to the actual mission and need of feeding NWCT.

Thank you kindly for supporting FHFB and we look forward to your support today and beyond.
