Friends of Angola

Friends of Angola (FOA) is a human rights advocacy organization established in 2014 to raise the consciousness of the global community to the challenges facing Angola and to support its civil society.  In collaboration with local NGO’s and National Endowment for Democracy (NED) among others, our projects are focused on bringing together Angolan youth, women, and former combatants to provide the support, training and resources they need to become leaders in their communities and promote nonviolent civic engagement by using new and existing technologies. 

Over the years we have successfully implemented 6 projects: Radio Angola, Strengthening Civic Engagement Among the Youth, Community Journalism, Building Good Governance in Angola through a Collaborative and Interactive Approach, Fostering Strong Relational Bonds Between Parliament and Civil Society in Angola, Zuela (an election monitoring and human rights violation tracking mobile application), and the latest one Leadership Values and Democratic Values for Angolan Youth and Women. 

Each project has been instrumental in creating community leaders, activists, journalists, and entrepreneurs with a better understanding of civil discourse, democratic values, and entrepreneurship. Through training, workshops, online engagement, and radio transmission we have reached more than 3000 participants, directly and indirectly, harnessing the growing trend of internet usage and creating a network of likeminded individuals to plant the seeds of community engagement, leadership, good governance, transparency, human rights, and nonviolent engagement with local government.  

Friends of Angola believes that by engaging the youth we can create community leaders from an early age,  lowering socio-political instability that rises out of economic hardship, joblessness, and illiteracy and shepherd a strong civil society.
