Your donation can make the difference in the safety and education of visitors to Joshua Tree National Park!

Friends of Joshua Tree  (FOJT) is the primary funding partner of Joshua Tree Search and Rescue (JOSAR).  Comprised almost entirely of volunteers, JOSAR  is one of the few National Park SAR teams that is supervised by the National Park, but run by the volunteers. JOSAR consists of four teams; Search, Technical, K9 and Support. The commitment to excellence is unsurpassed. Providing this level of service requires constant training, updated equipment, and an extraordinary commitment by our select volunteers.   Your donations will help with the cost of a multitude of equipment and supplies; climbing gear, fuel, GPS and communication devices, computers, first aid supplies . . . and much more.  Visitor attendance to Joshua Tree National Park has increased by 500,000 people each of the last 3 years and last year exceeded 2.5 million visitors!  The number of visitors is expected to increase in the future as more people discover the unique attraction of the park.  As such, we can expect an increase in call-outs for JOSAR personnel.

Mission

Friends of Joshua Tree is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historical tradition of climbing in Joshua Tree National Park. Friends of Joshua Tree advocates, communicates, and encourages ethical and environmentally sound climbing practices, and works to shape park policy on climbing and climbing-related issues. Toward that end, Friends of Joshua Tree acts as the liaison between the climbing community and the National Park Service.

Our Goals

The Friends of Joshua Tree works to keep the rocks in Joshua Tree National Park open to climbers. We recognize this depends on the cooperation of rock climbers and land managers. Our goals are to educate all JTNP climbers to recognize and to limit the impacts of their climbing practices on the environment and to partner with the Park Service to create a climbing management plan that best represents climbers’ interests.
