Mission

The mission of the Friends of Little Sài Gòn is to preserve and enhance Little Saigon's cultural, economic, and historic vitality. Race and social equity are at the root of our advocacy work to prevent commercial and cultural displacement of the Asian Pacific Islander community in the Chinatown-International District. We provide programs that build on community power and control, supports small immigrant and refugee owned businesses, and promote Vietnamese culture and identity.

Description

Friends of Little Sài Gòn (FLS) was established in 2011 due to major redevelopment changes occurring in the neighborhood. This group of stakeholders were Asian Pacific Islander Americans that were small businesses and community members invested in preserving Little Saigon. FLS began advocating for race and social equity in community involvement and investment in the changes happening in our neighborhood. Since then, FLS has formalized as a community development organization working towards building community control and ownership, providing small business technical support to prevent commercial displacement, and pushing for programs and opportunities to strengthen the Vietnamese identity in Seattle and King County.
