Friends of ROAM

Friends of ROAM has provided over $27,000 in need-based music scholarships to school-aged children in our community. We have helped nine young people access music lessons and Rock School tuition since our founding in 2018.  We are growing and plan to increase the number of scholarships again in 2024/2025.

The Rock of Ages Music School is a tremendous asset to our community.  It provides local children with high quality music instruction, an avenue for creativity and expression, a sense of belonging, and a fun and unique challenge.  But, it is not inexpensive. In 2018, ROAM parents recognized how fortunate they were to be able to provide these opportunities to their children, but also recognized that something was missing.  Because of the cost, a large portion of our community was excluded.  Our children were missing the benefits of a more inclusive school, and kids from modest means were unable to participate and benefit as well.

Recognizing that this community is welcoming and generous, we formed Friends of ROAM to build community, strengthen our ties to each other, and improve the lives of our scholarship students and their band mates.

With the help of hundreds of donors and a volunteer Board of Directors, we continue to raise funds and provide scholarships.  We have had several students taking private music lessons, some have joined bands in the Rock School program, and two have graduated.  We are working to maintain a healthy account balance so that we can continue to offer scholarships to new students and never have to tell a child that we can no longer afford to pay their tuition.

Friends of ROAM is a registered 501(c)3 charitable corporation and is proud to have earned a Gold Seal from Candid/Guidestar which rates non-profit organizations on several factors including organization/administration, and the use of funds to meet charitable objectives.

Thank you for your support. Friends of ROAM doesn’t work without you.  We are always looking for volunteers to help us plan and execute fundraising and community building events which include benefit concerts, Holiday Sing Along, and Instrument Petting Zoo.  We are eager to expand our collaboration with other community groups and area teachers to identify potential scholarship students.  And, of course, we need to continue to raise funds to support these young musicians.

Who We Are

The purpose of the Friends of ROAM is to assist young musicians to access high quality music education in order to develop their musicianship and love of the art of music. The organization focuses on addressing the needs of young musicians in the community for whom quality music education may be out of financial reach.

Your contribution will enable young students to take a private lesson, attend summer camp or participate in a rock band.
