Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control

Our Mission

The Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control (FSFACC) is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for the city's municipal, open-admission animal shelter, San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SFACC), which takes in any animal—from dogs and cats to rabbits, birds, and wild animals. The mission of Friends of SFACC is to enhance or establish programs and services that benefit animals and serve and educate the public.

Our Vision

Friends of SFACC gives small grants to Bay Area rescue groups that work directly with Animal Care and Control (ACC) to find loving families for every adoptable pet. In addition, Friends underwrites the dog and cat behavior and training program, provides free microchips for SF dogs and cats, and has helped fund projects such the park adjacent to the shelter where shelter dogs and rabbits get exercise and playtime, and an online, touch-screen kiosk-based lost pet system. Enrichment items like toys, treats, and specialized caging are also supplied by Friends. Programs like these might not exist without the help of Friends.

SFACC municipal shelter (and no other organization in the city) provides the following services:

• Accepts all at risk animals, wild and domestic, in any medical/behavioral condition and of any age
• Adopts out all species of domesticated animals (including farm animals)
• Enforces animal control laws, investigates reports of animal abuse/neglect, and responds to animal-related emergencies
• Provides shelter care and quality of life enhancements for animals in protective custody
• Educates the public about interacting with wildlife
• Provides licensing for resident dogs (and voluntarily cats)
• Provides animal-related services for people as well as for animals

 

Our Organization

Friends of SFACC is a completely volunteer organization. All contributions directly support the animal welfare services of ACC and its rescue partners.
