Library usage continues to increase in Hadley.
Last year at the Goodwin:
- Over 17,000 Patrons visited
- Circulation was up over 7% from the previous year
- 46,000 items were borrowed. This is 250% increase over 10 years.
- 1 out of every 2 residents has a library card.
Cost of building a library:
Estimated total cost is $7 million.
- 54% from the grant
- 36% from the town
- 10% from the capital campaign
The new library:
- will be handicap accessible
- will have a community room for 75 people and available to the public even when the library is closed.
- will address space needs for the collections and occupancy not met by our present facility.
- will have the capacity for a collection twice the current size.
- will be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. LEED certification could result in additional grant funding for construction.
- will have ample parking with 40 dedicated spaces. The current library has 9 parking spaces.
- will minimize staffing costs while maintaining a secure, welcoming, full-service environment.
